The Importance of Wearing Gloves
It has often said that safe and well-cared for hands are one of the biggest keys to overall health and well-being. The importance of wearing gloves comes not only from the basic protection that they offer to the hands—protection from extreme temperature, chemicals and germs, but from their overall protection of health to the body.
A burned hand is the best teacher, or so the saying goes. Maybe that is right, but is that a lesson most people want to learn? Just like gloves can prevent that proverbial burned hand, they can also protect against extreme cold and all the things that go along with it, from chapped, painfully-cracked skin to numbness and general body chills.
Never underestimate germs
There's a reason why health practitioners can never stress proper hand-washing too much. However, even proper washing cannot offer protection from everything. This is why, for increased sanitation and germ protection, very few things can offer the levels of protection that gloves can.
Chemicals, irritants and sharps
You should never touch many objects and substances with bare hands, whether they are medical sharps, irritants, or potentially dangerous chemicals. In such cases proper gloves are the only realistic and safe way to take care of these dangers.
Get a grip
Sometimes, gloves are useful for far more practical reasons, namely that some things are simply too slippery or awkward to grip with bare hands. Opening a difficult jar lid, grabbing onto a bat or golf club or climbing a difficult mountain is made much easier by wearing no-slip gloves.
In many situations, wearing gloves is the most important piece of gear you can wear, not just for the obvious reasons of protection from extreme temperatures, germs, chemicals and irritants, but also for the way in which good gloves can enhance the hand's gripping capabilities.
